The Diabetic Foot International Conference, held recently in Karachi, was honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Javed Akram, President of the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine (PSIM), who graced the event as its Chief Guest.

In his address, Prof. Akram highlighted the critical importance of advancing research, clinical practices, and public health initiatives aimed at preventing and managing diabetic complications, particularly diabetic foot disease. He underscored the rising burden of diabetes in Pakistan and the urgent need for multi-disciplinary collaboration to reduce morbidity and improve patient outcomes.

Representing PSIM, Prof. Akram reaffirmed the society’s commitment to promoting evidence-based medicine, fostering continuing medical education, and supporting healthcare professionals through academic and research platforms. He appreciated the efforts of the Baqai Institute of Diabetes & Endocrinology (BIDE) for organizing a successful and academically rich conference that brought together national and international experts.

The conference served as a valuable platform for clinicians, researchers, and policy-makers to discuss innovations in diabetic care, prevention strategies, and best practices in managing diabetic foot – one of the most serious complications of diabetes. PSIM congratulates BIDE on the success of this international conference and looks forward to continued contributions in advancing diabetes care and research at both national and global levels.
