Dr. Umar Farooq is an academic Nephrologist at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He is an Professor of Medicine at Penn State University College of Medicine and Associate Chief Medical Officer at Penn State Health. He graduated from King Edward Medical College, Lahore. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and his Nephrology Fellowship at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He is a certified hypertension specialist by the American Society of Hypertension and completed a Master of Science (MS) in Public Health Sciences at Penn State University. He is enrolled in an MBA at Penn State University Smeal College of Business.

He serves as core clinical faculty for the Nephrology Fellowship and previously served as associate program director for the fellowship training program. Through Project Echo, he has established an educational initiative, GN and Transplant Echo Series, in collaboration with the Nephrology community in Pakistan. His research interests are resistant hypertension, slowing CKD progression, Diabetic Nephropathy, Glomerulonephritis, and population health.
