Dr Muhammad Tariq is serving as Vice Dean of the Medical College, Professor of Medicine, Yasmin & Shaukat Ali Jessani Endowed Chair, and International Regional Advisor of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.  Previously, he held various leadership roles such as Interim Associate Dean of Education and Interim Chair Department for Educational Development (DED) from 2015-2022, Section Head of Internal Medicine from 2011 -2017Director of Postgraduate Programmes Medicine from 2008 to 2015, and Programme Director of Internal Medicine supervising both FCPS and MRCP candidates for 10 years.

 

He completed his MBBS from Dow Medical College and obtained the MRCP UK in 2001. He later advanced to FRCP Edinburgh and London in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Additionally, he became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2009 and completed a fellowship at the FAIMER Institute in Philadelphia in 2011. He also earned an MHPE from Maastricht University in the Netherlands in 2014.

 

He is a recipient of several awards such as the Award of Excellence in Teaching and Teaching Leadership awarded AKU’s Global Convocation 2021, Inaugural membership of AKU’s Teachers Academy, Outstanding Teacher Award in 2007 and 2014 (Medical College Convocation), Best Teacher Award thrice (Annual Appreciation Evening in 2007, 2011 and 2016), Award for significant contributions towards PGME in 2009, Fully Funded FAIMER Institute Fellowship Philadelphia, Awarded in 2009-2011, IFME Award and awarded by FAIMER to pursue MHPE in 2012.

 

He contributed substantially to quadruple roles in education, clinical services, research, and administration as a faculty member at Aga Khan University. Notably, he played a significant role in establishing a partnership with Umbrella Consortium Assessment Networks to enhance the quality of assessment at AKU. He has published several research papers and articles in national and international medical journals, with a particular interest in medical education research concerning assessment & feedback, and communication skills.  Furthermore, he provides inpatient and outpatient clinical services and manages a rising number of complicated and difficult-to-diagnose patients within the country.
